iOS default browser
SalaX supports selecting the browser used to open external web links through Managed App Configuration.
Configuration
Add the following string setting to the SalaX managed application configuration:
Key: im.vector.app.externalBrowser
Type: String
Supported values are case-sensitive:
| Value | Browser |
|---|---|
systemDefault | The device’s default browser |
microsoftEdge | Microsoft Edge |
googleChrome | Google Chrome |
firefox | Mozilla Firefox |
brave | Brave |
Example:
<dict>
<key>im.vector.app.externalBrowser</key>
<string>microsoftEdge</string>
</dict>
Behavior
When a user opens an external link from SalaX:
- SalaX opens it in the browser selected by the MDM policy.
- The MDM selection takes precedence over the user’s default-browser setting.
- If the selected browser is not installed, SalaX opens its App Store page.
- If the setting is missing, invalid, or unsupported, SalaX uses the device’s default browser.
The setting applies to external links such as links in messages, external authentication pages, support pages, and “Learn more” links.
It does not affect:
- Pages intentionally displayed inside SalaX
- System Settings
- Maps applications
- App Store links
- Email, telephone, Matrix, or other application-specific links
Important Notes
- The required browser should preferably be deployed alongside SalaX.
- If App Store access is restricted and the selected browser is not installed, users may be unable to open the link.
- Safari cannot be selected explicitly. To use the device’s current default browser, omit
im.vector.app.externalBrowseror set it tosystemDefault. If Safari is the device’s default browser, links will open in Safari. - Setting
systemDefaultis optional. It can be used to explicitly reset a previously enforced browser policy. - Users do not need to log out after the policy changes. If a new setting is not applied immediately, restart SalaX after confirming that the MDM policy reached the device.
