Direct messages

Direct messages are private one-to-one conversations between you and another user in SalaX Secure Messaging.
Technically, direct messages are private rooms with a single participant.

They are ideal for personal communication and quick discussions, and they appear under the Direct messages section in the left-side panel once created.

Start a direct message

You can start a direct message with another user directly from the sidebar.

To start a direct message:

1. Navigate to the left-side panel. Click the + icon next to a space name and select Direct message.
   Alternatively, click the + icon next to the Direct messages section.

2. Enter a name, email address, or username into the text field.
   Users that are already using SalaX Secure Messaging appear in the Suggestions list below.

   If you are searching for a user from another homeserver, enter the full user ID

   NOTE. Some suggestions may be hidden for privacy reasons.

   A. If the user appears in the list, select the user and click Go to start a chat.
   B. If you cannot find the user in the list, you can send them an invite link. Click to copy the link and share it with the user, for example via email.

A new private conversation is created and opened automatically once the user joins.

Using direct messages

Direct messages support the same communication features as rooms.

In a direct message, you can:

• Send and format messages
• Share files and media
• Send voice messages
• Start voice or video calls
• Use emojis, reactions, replies, threads, and polls
